Pet Stories [SM]

People, when looking for their new pet, often want to have one that's a purebred. Having a specific breed of dog can be very advantageous to an owner. Generally, each breed carries with it certain characteristics and personalities. These types of dogs are often very expensive and are commonly accompanied with papers, proving that its parents are full bred, along with grandparents etc. depending on how far back it is traced. Amazingly, the cost can run into the thousands of dollars depending on the quality, breed and even the number of dog shows its family line has won.

If buying within a specific breed is important to you, consider all your options.

Most people would be amazed to learn that many animal shelters report that about ¼ of their dogs are purebred. Unfortunately most aren't accompanied with papers at a shelter or pound, but never the less they can be the most beautiful and loving purebred pets. Adopted dogs tend to know that they are being given a second chance and are often better family pets. It's been said quite often that a family enjoys their pound/shelter pet more than their papered purebred. The best part is when you get your purebred (or mixed breed) through an animal shelter or dog pound you will likely be saving it's life.

Some shelters give many incentives to encourage adoption. Some incentives might include vaccinations and licensing with the cost of adoption. Most assuredly, the cost of adopting a pet at a shelter or pound will be much less than the cost of buying a purebred with papers. Keeping in mind, your purchased purebred will still need vaccinations and licensing at you local shelter or veterinarian. If you find a pet at an animal shelter, you can be certain you've given that pet a second chance for life that it may never have had without you!!
